Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to invite you to the 12th NEUROSURGICAL MICROVASCULAR WORKSHOP at the Hospital of České Budějovice, which will be held on 28-30 November 2023..
Microsurgical laboratory training plays an important role in the development of neurosurgical skills in bypass surgery. The ability to perform a microvascular anastomosis is indispensable in cerebrovascular neurosurgery. Practice of a bypass on an animal rat model represents an ideal opportunity for such training.
Stroke prevention is a frequently neglected area of cerebrovascular surgery. Having experience with nearly 3000 carotid endarterectomies, we strongly believe that mastering CEA technique should be a part of every vascular neurosurgeon’s armamentarium. Our workshop offers a unique live-surgery participation with Q&A and much more.
A modern comprehensive stroke center should have an experienced and technically well equipped neurosurgeon with expertise in EC-IC bypass surgery as well. In the light of the last controversial trials only a limited number of the procedures are being performed in ischemic stroke cases. However, a skilled neurosurgeon should be able to perform these in a select subgroups of stroke patients, as well as in flow replacement cases in aneurysm surgery.
The purpose of our workshop is to provide training for those trainees or specialists who aim to improve their microsurgical technical skills in cerebrovascular surgery.
Live surgeries will take place during the course the workshop. EC-IC flow augmentation bypass and/or carotid endarterectomies will be performed. It is a tradition to spend this time with experts from abroad. Renowned neurosurgeons and opinion leaders, such as Hernesniemi, Tulleken, Šteňo and Beneš have given their lectures at our workshop in the past. This year it is great pleasure for us to invite prof. David Langer, chair of neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
Last but not least allow us to thank the expert guarantor: Prof. Martin Sameš, CSc., President of Czech Neurosurgical Society for his traditional support of the workshop. The technical background provided by the Institute of Parasitology, Biology Centre CAS is of paramount importance in the existence of this meeting. We would like to use this opportunity and thank the director, Prof. Ing. Miroslav Oborník, Ph.D. for his assistance, which is crucial in the organization of the workshop.
Unfortunately, due to the limited capacity of the facilities, the organizers had to limit the number of participants. We therefore kindly ask the applications to be sent to the address of the organizing committee. We are looking forward to seeing you in České Budějovice.
Yours sincerely
